Students may apply for more than one scholarship type but will only be awarded one scholarship.
Lake Chelan Rotary has a long history of supporting educational opportunities for youth by providing scholarships for students in the Lake Chelan Valley. These scholarships are given to Chelan and Manson students to pursue a post high school education at colleges, universities, trade or technical schools.
The scholarships are made possible through the fundraising efforts of Lake Chelan Rotary and generous donors. They are administered through Lake Chelan Rotary 501(c)3 known as: Lake Chelan Rotary Community and International Fund (The Fund).
Academic and Technical Scholarships:
Six $2500 scholarships will be awarded each year. The scholarships will be given to Chelan High School and Manson High School graduating seniors who are continuing their education. Students may apply for ether the academic or technical scholarship.
The scholarships will be divided equally between Chelan High School and Manson High School graduating seniors. The number of academic and technical scholarships given will be determined by student applications
Academic Scholarship Requirements: Graduating seniors who live in the Manson or Chelan school districts, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, plan to attend a two or four-year college or university with the goal being to achieve a degree in a specific area of study.
Technical Scholarship Requirements: Graduating seniors who live in the Manson or Chelan school districts, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, plan to attend an accredited technical or trade school (includes community college programs) and who have a limited ability or may not be able to pursue a higher education without funding assistance?
A total of four (4) $4000 Shine-On scholarships will be awarded each year to graduating seniors who live in the Chelan or Manson School districts. The scholarship will be paid at $2000 each year for two (2) years if the student is still in school the second year.
The Shine On scholarships are specifically intended to assist graduating seniors who have overcome significant adversity in life and have reached their goal of graduating from high school.
Students applying for the Shine-On Scholarships may also apply for the Academic or Technical Scholarships.
Completed applications and supporting documents may be submitted electronically or by mail to: Lake Chelan Rotary Scholarship Committee, PO Box 601, Chelan, WA 98816. The closing date for scholarship applications will be April 15, 2022.
Students may apply for more than one scholarship in a given academic year but will be eligible for only one award.
Determining Financial Need
The Lake Chelan Rotary Scholarship Committee in its selection process for the academic and technical scholarships is seeking to assist students who have a financial need. Students who without financial assistance may not be able to attend post high school studies or for students that funding post high schools studies will be a considerable hardship for their families.
Applications will be reviewed by the Lake Chelan Rotary Scholarship Committee and representatives from the community. Applications are evaluated on an objective and competitive basis using established criteria for each type of scholarship. In the final selection process students will be invited to interview with the Scholarship Committee and community representatives.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be notified and given instructions on how to proceed.
Once Rotary has received the required signatures and documentation, payment will be made directly to the institution of higher learning that the student has chosen to attend.
Students must notify Rotary (no later than August 31, 2022) of the name of the school of their choice, school address, and their assigned student identification number.
Scholarship recipients will be expected to attend a designated Rotary luncheon to accept and acknowledge their awards.
Scholarships awards are to be used during the 2022-2023 academic year. The scholarship may be used for tuition, class fees, supplies and books.
In the Event of Full Funding
If a recipient for one of the Rotary scholarships is able to secure full funding via other scholarships and sources to pursue their educational plans for the 2022-2023 academic year, the Lake Chelan Rotary may request that their award be returned. It will then be awarded to the 1st runner up that still has substantial need to pursue their educational plans for the 2022-2023 academic year.
As part of the Lake Chelan Rotary Club Scholarship application the applicant and their parent/guardian must attest to the accuracy of the application materials.
The Parental Consent Form must be downloaded using the link provided (in blue and underlined), signed and uploaded to the application package in order for the applicant’s materials to be considered by the Scholarship Committee.
